Do any of you know whether the front 12V socket has an auto off function? I know it doesn't follow the radio, but I left my dashcam in while I was in the Dominican for a week and the car started up fine. I am going to hardwire it in anyways, but for now I'm just curious.

Ford doesn't feel like the sockets should shut off with the car or so I've noticed.

I've seen a couple posts rumouring that it shuts off at 30min, but nothing concrete.

I never use the front socket, I know the rear socket keeps the light on on my cell charger all the time... it may be a smart circuit though, that cuts current if the battery drain gets too low. "Always on, unless it's a problem" There are lot of little touches like that on the FieSTa that I like.
I like that when you put it in reverse with the wipers on it takes a swipe with the rear wiper even if you don't turn the rear wiper on... same if you use the single-swipe "mist" action on the stick while in reverse...

This isn't helpful but my '04 Taurus will keep my phone charger led illuminated all night and my radar detector running until it turns itself off after 12 hours of being on.

Since its a dashcam I think I'd rather have it off if I'm out of the car.
I had no idea it does that, I'll have to check next time it's raining!

I wonder if it would make more sense to wire in a socket (or two) and mount it in the glovebox fuse area instead of a straight hardwire? I probably won't add a radar detector, but that way it would be plug and play?

Mine does the wiper thing too. It's actually a setting you can turn on and off.
Every time it does it I've forgotten that it does, and I go 'neat!'

Note: When you switch the ignition on, you can use the socket to power 12 volt appliances with a maximum current rating of 20 amps. After you switch the ignition off the power supply will only work for a maximum of 30 minutes. To prevent the battery from running out of charge: Do not use the power point longer than necessary when the engine is not running. Do not leave devices plugged in overnight or when your vehicle is parked for extended periods.

Is it just reverse? I could have sworn my '12 Focus SE did that when i was going 2-3 mph in the parking lot leaving work one day but i might have hit the single swipe as i was shifting. Now I must investigate! lol
